Case Study: Delivering a Tailored Solution for a Glass-Free Site

When a client approached us to provide cake jars for their Employee Appreciation Day, they had a very clear vision in mind. They were not simply looking for a sweet treat to hand out to staff; they wanted something that felt thoughtful, high-quality, and memorable. The aim was to give employees a gift that would genuinely make them feel appreciated and recognised, while also creating a positive moment that reflected the importance of the occasion. Our cake jars were the perfect fit for that brief, offering a product that combined visual appeal, indulgence, and a premium feel in a way that suited the tone of the event.

However, there was one significant challenge that immediately had to be addressed.

The client’s site operated under a strict no-glass policy, which meant our standard cake jars could not be brought on site in their usual format. This presented an obstacle that could easily have derailed the project. For many suppliers, a restriction like this would have left very little room to manoeuvre. In most cases, it would have resulted in one of two outcomes: either the client would have been asked to choose a completely different product, or the opportunity would have been lost because the original idea could not be delivered within the site’s requirements.

Rather than treating the restriction as a dead end, we saw it as a challenge to solve.

We took a different approach by focusing on how we could preserve the client’s original vision, rather than replace it. Instead of asking them to compromise on the product they had chosen, we looked for a way to adapt our offering so it would work within the site’s rules without losing the essence of what made it special. That meant finding an alternative packaging solution that would satisfy the site’s health and safety requirements while still maintaining the premium presentation and overall experience the client wanted for their team.

To achieve this, we sourced high-quality, recyclable plastic jars that provided a practical and compliant alternative to glass. This allowed us to retain the same product concept while ensuring the final solution was suitable for the environment in which it would be distributed. Importantly, this was not about simply substituting one material for another. It was about making sure the end result still delivered on every level — from appearance and usability to sustainability and the overall impression it would leave with employees.

By taking the time to adapt the product properly, we were able to offer a solution that balanced all of the client’s priorities. The jars met the site’s strict no-glass requirement, supported a more sustainable approach through recyclable materials, and still delivered the premium, enjoyable experience the client had originally envisioned. In other words, the client did not have to sacrifice quality, safety, or impact to make the event work.

The end result was the successful delivery of 1,000 bespoke cake jars, created specifically around the client’s needs and site restrictions. More importantly, those 1,000 jars became 1,000 individual moments of appreciation — giving employees a tangible reminder that their contribution was valued. What could have been a limitation instead became an opportunity to demonstrate flexibility, problem-solving, and a genuine commitment to making the client’s idea a reality.
